Dads get their say:

I really was not sure what this class was going to be like, but after session one I was sold. HypnoBirthing® is scientific, it’s practical, it makes sense, and it made me feel part of our pregnancy and a useful team player at our birth – rather than just an anxious onlooker who didn’t know how to help. Pregnant dads!… if you are in two-minds about HypnoBirthing® I totally encourage you to do this class with Jackie.” Matt, Norwich.

Here is what some of our 2nd Timers had to say:

As second time parents it made us take time out to think through what we really want and make informed choices. We feel more confident that we are now better equipped to cope with whatever nature decides. This course has really made a difference.” Rachel, Norwich.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the support both with this pregnancy and the first time around. It was a true HypnoBirth and I also used a number of yoga techniques to mange contractions. Thanks to a great teacher who helped me to achieve a natural home birth that I wanted!” Jenny

Hi Jackie, I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thank you so much for the HypnoBirthing® course; we couldn’t have done it without you. To think that when I started I was quite anxious and had my mind set on giving birth in the hospital! I used your CD during the labour and it was very calming and reassuring to hear your voice and be reminded of the course and being in your cosy study whilst I was having contractions. The birth breathing was also amazing when I finally got the hang of it. We definitely achieved the relaxed atmosphere I was after! Anyway, thanks again, a truly inspirational teacher!” Jenny, Hadleigh & Trudi.

HypnoBirthing birth stories:

Hi Jackie, big thank you to you for teaching us how to hypnobirth! Our son Navin was born weighing 7lb10oz. He was very alert, totally relaxed and surprised the midwife with his perfect APGAR score.

The birth was fantastic. I started having surges at 6am and stayed in bed for a while. Using the slow breathing I got on with my day-to-day tasks, getting myself ready for what lies ahead. By noon my surges were very regular, about 4 mins apart but very easy to manage using the breathing. I was preparing some snacks for the afternoon while Hemant rang the delivery suite to tell them that we might be in established labour. We got to the reception by 12.45 and staff straightaway recognised that we are HypnoBirthing® as I was stopping for each contraction whilst being able to talk happily in between. After almost 20 minutes in the waiting room I insisted on having a room to lie down to support my relaxation as I started to feel slightly panicky (transition as I now know). The midwifery care assistant took my blood pressure, pulse and temperature and got me up to get a urine sample when I felt the baby was ready to arrive. She didn’t quite believe it until I went on all fours on the bathroom floor when my waters broke and my husband told her that he can see the head. She ran for the midwife who helped me to get on the bed to kneel a bit more comfortably and after a short 15-20 minutes our baby was there. I picked him up myself and thanks to our super midwife everything else was completely natural as well. We waited for the cord to stop pulsating, he breastfed happily shortly after being born and without much effort the placenta was delivered half an hour later. When we got home that night Navin had some good feeds and then slept through most of the night giving us a good rest.
Thanks to HypnoBirthing® we are all very relaxed, the baby is incredibly content and feeding well, none of us is exhausted or tired and we enjoy the benefits of a natural birth. THANKS to you!
We hope all the other HypnoBirthing® mums will have such a wonderful experience!” Jessi & Hemant.

I wanted to let you know that I had a little girl on Sunday at 7:30pm! 11 days early so I didn’t get to do all the things I’d planned beforehand but it was worth it as I had a totally different and far far better experience than last time. I started having mild surges in the early hours of Sunday morning but very quickly they became much more powerful and frequent. Got to hospital about 10am and was already about 6 or 7 cms which was positive as I never got that far before! Anyway, I managed the whole thing with my breathing and was in the pool for most of the time but did have to get out at the very end to actually birth her.

Thank you for all your help and it definitely worked!” Sarah.

I had attended HypnoBirthing® sessions following some extremely strong (almost forceful!) recommendations from friends. Looking back I realised that my preparations for my first child’s birth had been scant, and naive. It had not gone to plan. It wasn’t until my first session with Jackie that I realised how terrified I was of child birth, and how that first experience had left me feeling like a failure. I felt there was no chance of me having a positive birth experience….

Gradually, as I continued to attend the sessions, my confidence grew. I started to believe that it might be possible for things to go well this time. I practiced the breathing and listened to the relaxation cd. I found the relaxation techniques really helpful in the last stressful weeks of pregnancy…

Suddenly in one big surge his head was out. I could see his head and feel his kicks inside me (an extraordinary experience) He was very wriggly so I could tell he was ok. In the next surge out he came! He went straight onto my tummy, all soft and slimy. His eyes were big and dark, alert and peaceful. He was beautiful.

I felt on a high for weeks after Tom’s birth. It was the most extraordinary and incredible experience that will stay with me all my life. It felt quiet and restful right the way through. Even though we were in hospital throughout, HypnoBirthing® had given me the confidence to take control of our environment to such a degree that we could have been at home” Hannah, Norwich.

Hi Jackie, I just wanted to quickly email you and let you know that I’ve had my baby boy! He’s called Noah and was born on the 26th July at home in the birth pool just as I planned! I had the most amazing birth experience possible and thats all thanks to you and HypnoBirthing® J

I felt so calm and happy and still wasn’t really feeling any pain with the surges just lots of pressure but I remembered to do my breathing which helped me to keep me calm, I did a little walking and a bit of rocking on my birth ball, then decided to lay down on the sofa I heard a little pop and just knew my waters were breaking! I stood up and low and behold my waters broke J, I felt very calm and was even laughing, Noah was born in the water 14mins later with no other type of pain relief (1hr 14min labour wow) it was so lovely to be in the water with him….

Thank you so much for teaching us all about HypnoBirthing®, it changed the whole way I thought about giving birth, I was actually looking forward to it this time, I truly believe every woman should know about it, I’ve already had to give two ladies your details so hopefully they’ll book with you J thanks again” Zoe & Carl.

Great news, we had a beautiful baby girl. Emilia Charlotte Elizabeth arrived weighing 6lb 6oz!

From arriving at the hospital at 8am I was 7cm dilated and had her at 10.30am. I started surges at 6pm Wednesday night and managed the whole night with relaxation techniques and 2 paracetamol. The midwife who examined me didn’t even believe I was in labour and was going to admit me on to the ward instead of sending me home until she did an internal exam and realised I was 7cm! The surges then came on with greater intensity, but the midwife was fantastic and really understood what I wanted to achieve so was reassuring that what was happening to me was text book and she just left me to it. When it got a bit too much I had some gas and air but again the breathing techniques helped with taking this in. After just 15 minutes and 3 ‘pushes’ Emilia was born.

I cant thank you enough it was just the kind of birth experience that I wanted and i felt in control the whole time. I wouldn’t have coped overnight without being able to relax so much, and although my contractions never really got under 6 minutes apart I felt the ones I did have were really effective. HypnoBirthing® (plus a great midwife) have made this birth a real achievement, plus have given me some closure on Ewan’s birth. Warm wishes” Jennie, Norwich.

Hi Jackie and fellow Hypnobirthers, Just wanted to let you all know that Isla Wren Foster arrived yesterday at 4.08pm weighing 7lb 14! She is beautiful. The birth was completely drug free and lovely! My waters broke at 7am and when we arrived at the hospital at 1pm I was fully dilated. Jason was perfect and the midwife was lovely too.

We feel very privileged to have had such a fantastic teacher which enabled us to have this amazing experience! Thank you so much Jackie and good luck to everyone else, it truly is wonderful, as is our baby girl! I have to say Jason is a natural Daddy already – she can’t get enough of him!
Thanks again – I will definitely be recommending you to all our friends!” Hannah.

What people say about HypnoBirthing® nationally…

Outstanding! Easy to learn relaxation and breathing patterns guided me through a five hour, pain free, labour. I will treasure the experience forever” Kim.

Wonderful! I tell everyone that it is the only way… my doctor is so impressed” Katherine.

HypnoBirthing® has changed the way I practice obstetrics” Dr. Jeffrey Segil.

Using the breathing and relaxation techniques we were taught, I was able to get through twelve hours of contractions with absolutely no pain at all. All I could feel was pressure. The final part, where I was pushing Mia out, stung a little bit but that was all, and I didn’t need any pain relief – not even gas and air. What’s more, my sister saw me soon afterwards and said I looked as if I’d just come back from a health farm, not just given birth!” Catherine, Jersey.

Catherine’s husband Mark was equally enthusiastic about HypnoBirthing® “Several of my friends have had babies recently, and many of them told me it was a traumatic and stressful experience. They said they felt powerless to ease the pain their partner was going through, and didn’t know what they were supposed to do. Thanks to the techniques that Jenny taught us, I was able to help Catherine right the way through, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the birth – it was fantastic!” Mark, Jersey.

I gave birth to Fintan on Mon 10th May at 20.04. My surges started irregularly about 1pm, I then started timing them about 2pm. Called Steve home from work at 3pm, because I wanted to relax more. Had a long deep bath, and they seemed to kick in fully then. Midwife arrived at 7pm (when I was 7cm) and Fintan was born at 8.04pm. Pretty swift really. Oh and I had him at home as planned – which was lovely. Midwives were well impressed at how calm and serene I looked. I found that sleep breathing was excellent. It really did make the discomfort go away and is empowering as you know what your body is doing so you work with, instead of against it.

Steve was a fantastic birthing partner, calming me and talking me through my breathing – I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. I played the CD constantly as well, and kept saying the affirmations in my head to make me focus on the job-in-hand. As for the J breath, I loved it – it made the actual delivery easy-peasy. I can’t rave about it enough. Plus one push and the placenta was out – who needs drugs? Believe in the power that is HypnoBirthing® and you too will be talked about at midwife meetings. Our community midwives actually said it was one of the easiest first time-mother births that they had seen in 20 years – now that is some recommendation!” Marie, Northhamptonshire.

Just to let you know that I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy last week – he arrived at 2.27am on Thursday 13th May. The labour was about 11 hours, but I was so relaxed that the midwives didn’t really believe I was in full blown labour until we had about 5 hours left to go! They were amazed when they checked me out and I was 5 cm dilated. In fact, they said I should just keep on relaxing and sent Ben and I to the pub next to the hospital for an hour!

I had no pain relief at all, although I did jump into the pool, more because it seemed a shame not to when it was there for use! The slow breathing was what got me through it – it’s a godsend. Ben did a rainbow relaxation when the surges were becoming very intense, which helped – and the arm stroking was a real rock, as was the background CD music.” Elaine, Bicester.

I can’t rave enough about HypnoBirthing®. My husband and I decided to do the course as I was interested in what it involved. Don’t be sceptical until you have tried it. We started off with the intention of having our baby in hospital but by the end of our course decided to try and have it at home and hired a birthing pool which was lovely. As the labour progressed, Andy took me into relaxation which enabled me to relax and even sleep while in the birthing pool. I did go into hospital as a precaution as I wasn’t dilating enough [and] on entry to the hospital they wanted to give me a c-section straight away, believe it or not. However, I had a fantastic midwife who new what we wanted to do for the birth of our baby and gave us a chance to continue with that as the baby wasn’t distressed.

Andy took me into deep relaxation at this point and I actually fell asleep for about 1/2 an hour in the peak of my surges…it was at this point I believe my body had rested and relaxed enough to allow my baby to move ready to be delivered.

I do genuinely believe that if I had not had the hypnobirth experience I would not have realised the potential of my own body and how it needs to be able to ‘get on with the job in hand’ without the addition of stress which fights it all the way.

When in relaxation I would describe it as that Sunday afternoon sleep that you contently drift in and out of. I could feel the surges and would describe them as the ache you get during your period. Happy HypnoBirthing®!” Heather & Andy, Northhampton.

I casually wandered into hospital with my husband, not even sure I was in labour, only to discover that I was already 6cm dilated, and progressing fast! The midwives were astonished at how calm I was, especially for a first time mum!” Katy, Thrapston.

I can’t imagine how anyone gives birth without it! HypnoBirthing® kept me feeling calm and in control throughout labour. The contractions were no problem at all. I knew what to do and what to think. It gave me a better understanding of the physical and psychological aspects of childbirth. It also gave me greater confidence in myself and in my partner to work as a team, as I knew that we had the tools to ensure a safe and calm birth.

This meant that I avoided the use of pain-killing chemicals. I believe in myself (mind and body) a lot more now, and feel that perhaps there’s even more I can achieve if I only put my mind to it.

I would advise every mother-to-be and her partner to try HypnoBirthing® even if they intend to use drugs.” Kerry, London.
